We are often asked why we don’t allow our campers to bring firewood with them when they check in at our campground. The reason is due to the Emerald Ash Borer. It is an insect that burrows into the tree and kills it. This little bug has been causing widespread damage throughout the eastern states for several years now and we have learned the best way to protect our trees is to keep foreign firewood out of the campground.
We understand that many campers want to bring their own wood in an effort to save money or to burn their favorite hardwood at the campfire. We wish we could go back to the old ways of letting everyone bring their own wood.
You can learn more about the Emerald Ash Borer from the Department of Agriculture’s website.
We know you value the beauty of trees in the campground and we do too. So, at least for now, we have to restrict foreign wood. We’ll make sure that we have wood available for you and you will be able to have a campfire. You can still enjoy your evenings with friends and family around the fire.
If everyone complies we will have beautiful trees to shade you on your summer vacation for years to come. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon.
