One of the things campers look forward to when they’re planning their vacation is the wonderful food they’ll get to enjoy during the camping trip. Delicious burgers cooked on the grill and s’mores every night by the campfire are the kinds of foods their mouths water for. Camping can also be a time for eating healthy food when you consider the variety of fresh fruits and vegetables available during the summer. For those who are trying to temper their eating habits, there are wonderful options available.
Consider cooking sweet potatoes in place of white potatoes and load up on tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet peppers, apples, peaches, watermelon, and pears. You can even cook and/or cut them up before arriving which will save you more time for play while you’re here.
Breakfast can be made healthier by cooking whole-wheat pancakes and mixing in some healthy nuts such as almonds, pecans, or walnuts. Many people aim for a balanced approach to their camping food. You may still enjoy campfire bacon (and what can be better than that?), but also have fresh cut vegetables and yogurt dip available as well. You might try grilling turkey burgers versus beef, and using low-fat Ranch dressing on your salad.
You’ll certainly get a lot of exercise when you’re camping and that’s a start. If you add in some healthy options your family will have more energy to play and enjoy their time away from home. Be sure to drink plenty of water. It will keep your body hydrated and replace the fluids you’ll burn off as you’re playing tag with the kids in the campground.
We hope your camping trip is fun, relaxing, and memorable. We look forward to seeing you and learning more about you and your family when we meet you. Be sure to give us a call and make a reservation because summer will be here before you know it.
